유언서는 엄격하게 법정요건에 맞게 작성되어야 그 효력이 인정됨이 일반이다. 그러나 언어에 대한 제한은 없다. 영어외의 다른 언어로 작성되어도 그 효력이 인정된다.
그러나 probate 절차를 위해서는 반드시 영어번역본을 첨부하여야한다. (Prob. C. sec. 8002(b)(2))
